If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time

Post date:

The little boy was neatly dressed in a school uniform of white top and a blue knicker. At the point of seeing this little handsome lad, I felt nostalgic reminiscing on those days when I was young, those days when I was in elementary schools.

It was at this juncture of nostalgia that I felt motivated and inspired in my spirit to put down few words that are tagged, titled and themed:

I remembered those days,

I remembered those moment of my life,

I remembered those period,

I remembered those years,

I remembered my growing up days,

Though they are fleeting,

Though they have become shadows of the past in my mind,

Though they are filled with passions,

Though they are filled with visions,

Though they are filled with dreams,

Though they are filled with innocence,

Though they are filled with youthfulness,

Though they are filled with pranks,

Though they are filled with playfulness and unseriousness,

Though they are filled with exuberances,

Though they are filled with dependencies,

Though they are filled with lack and wants,

Though they are filled with inadequacies and shortcomings,

Though they are filled with exigencies,

Though they are filled with struggles,

Though they are filled with harrowing experiences.

I remembered the unity in my family,

I remembered my dad,

I remembered my siblings,

I remembered how I grew up in a family of six,

I remembered how my dad took me out to visit an uncle in a neighbouring town,

I remembered spending my vacation with my uncle in Lagos.

I remembered my elementary school days,

I remembered my shirts and knickers,

I remembered how my mum taught me how to read and right,

I remembered how my academic performance became better in school,

I remembered how I became one of the best in my primary school,

I remembered all my school mates and friends,

I remembered days and moments of academic failures,

I remembered my dreams of becoming a medical doctor,

I remembered how I later swap for Chemical Engineering,

I remembered how my dad and mum parted,

I remembered how my mum fetched for four of us single-handedly,

I remembered my university days,

I remembered how tough and rough my university days are,

I remembered how I struggled to have a better result out of school.

I remembered my siblings,

I remembered how we all struggle to stand on our feet till now,

I remembered that days my mum shed tears,

I remembered those days of quietness and wishful thinkings,

I remembered those moment of shyness,

I remembered those moment of working as a classroom teacher collecting stipends,

I remembered how I struggled to gain employment,

I remembered those moments of disappointments and failures.

In the course of this nostalgia, I realised that I passed through many rivers and waters to become better which was made possible by many of the harrowing experiences I had. Though I could have been better off in my sojourn in life life has a way of forcing us to learn some lessons.

Many times, I still feel those pains of how I lost many opportunities due to circumstances around me that I could not control at the moment when I was passing through it. I still spend my time ruminating about the mistakes of the past by thinking about what could be done to change one thing or the other.

I realised that our happiness begins when we allow the past to stay in the past. We become better and cheerful when we allow the disappointment of the past to stay in the past without any effort to trigger its remembrance.

The only thing we can do is to always try our best in the course of our existence at any time, even though our best might not be the best. The only solution is for us to give the best to whatever we laid our hands upon and we should make sure that we leave an indelible mark in the test of time.

The question is:

Can anyone change the hands of time?

The answer is NO.

It is impossible to change the hands of time. One thing about time is that time always goes forward. Time is not made to go backward. It is this that made life to be time bound which puts a demand on every one of us to spend the little time we have on earth wisely by being responsible to a course, an idea and a philosophy that we made us become an icon when we are no more.

The sight of this little boy bothered me and I have a mixed feeling of being jealous and nostalgic. Jealous in the sense that he is still young and he has ample opportunities to take the right steps. I felt nostalgic in the sense that  I wished to go back to the past to make necessary adjustments, amendments and corrections which is impossible to obtain and achieve.

The only thing we can do is to accept our fate and keep dreaming of better days ahead that will give us one single chance that will serve as a sacrifice to erase and efface past mistakes, misdemeanours and mistakes.

Feeling nostalgic about the past should not push us to the point of regrets and depression but it should serve as a means of pushing ourselves to get better by not allowing the mistakes of the past to surface again.

If I could turn back the hands of time remains a wish, and there is no one on the surface of the earth that will be entitled to get anything from this wish. It is only the beauty of the present and the future that can cancel our thought of having this wish fulfilled.

No one has the knowledge, wisdom and understanding of how this wish can become a reality because life is given to be spent once.

Life is time.

Time is life.

As time trickles away,

Life tickles away,

As seasons fades out,

Life also fades out.

No one can hold time static,

No one can hold life to be static.

Everything in life must keep moving.

Though, “if I could turn back the hands of time” will eternally remains a wish,I will end my write-up with it.

If I could turn back the hands of time.

As a wish, If you are given an opportunity to change something in your life,

What will you change?
